What is American Sign Language?The course involves the learning of beginner to intermediate levels of American Sign Language. Which includes the study of history, structure, and grammar of American Sign Language. It also incorporates the study of the historical and cultural contexts of the Deaf community.
Parents, please keep in mind that the difficulty of ASL has been determined by standards of the Foreign Service Institute and Defense Language Institute as a Level IV out of four (Level IV being the most difficult). The challenge to learning ASL is mainly in the modality of learning due to the complex grammar system and significant structural and cultural differences in the language. |
